Josh Hazelwood to join Sixers

Sydney Sixers are excited to welcome back one of the world’s best bowlers Josh Hazlewood to the Club for BBL|09.

Hazlewood was part of the inaugural Sixers squad that won the first ever BBL trophy in the 2011-12 season and played 14 matches for the club between 2011-2014.

Hazlewood’s availability will be determined on Australian selection in the ODI squad to tour India, with those selected on that tour to return from the subcontinent for the last two games of the regular season, and the finals series.

Like star batsman Steve Smith, Hazlewood’s summer schedule has an open window this season that had been closed for several years.

“I joined the Sixers back when the BBL started and while I haven’t had much of an opportunity to play since, I always enjoyed my time there,” Hazlewood said.

“We’ve had some good times, like winning the first BBL and the Champions League in South Africa in 2012, and I’m looking forward to see what we can do this season.”

Sixers General Manager Jodie Hawkins said Hazlewood offered another quality bowler for coach Greg Shipperd’s squad.

“We are very excited to see Josh back in Magenta this season,” Hawkins said.

“He was a part of our original squad that won the first BBL back in January 2012 and to have him come back to our set up and pull on the Magenta again is awesome.

“Josh is an asset both on and off the field and will provide some great guidance to our young bowlers.

“Our fans will be delighted to see him back in team colours later this season after the International season.”

Across 14 matches for the Sixers, Hazlewood has taken 21 wickets at an average of 20.19, with best figures of 3/16.
