Josh Philippe signs with the Sydney Sixers

The Sydney Sixers are delighted to announce the signing of Josh Philippe on a three-year deal.

The 21-year-old wicketkeeper batsman became a star attraction for Sixers’ supporters in BBL|08 hitting 304 runs at 30.4.

Impressive performances in BBL|08 saw him capture the attention of the Australian public and he became one of the hottest properties on the Big Bash market for the summer ahead.

Following today’s news, Sixers’ supporters can look forward to watching the young gun in magenta for three more years.

His fearless batting, and agility behind the stumps, saw him become one of the most entertaining cricketers last summer. A match-winning knock of 86 not out from 49 balls against the Hobart Hurricanes and a stunning one-handed diving catch against cross-town rivals, Sydney Thunder, were just two of the highlights from an explosive debut season in Big Bash.

Since bursting onto the scene in late 2017 with a dynamic 88 for a Western Australian XI against an England attack featuring James Anderson and Stuart Broad, at the WACA, Philippe’s stock has risen ever since.

A fan favourite with the Magenta faithful, Philippe expressed his delight at signing for the Sixers:-

“I am excited to be returning to the Sixers for the next 3 years. I really enjoyed the support and opportunities I was given, and am keen on building on our success from last season. I feel extremely fortunate to be able to play my Shield and fifty over cricket for WA and the BBL with the Sixers. I can’t wait to get going next season and push to play finals cricket.

Sydney Sixers Head Coach Greg Shipperd added “The coaches, players and I’m sure the supporters are delighted with the re-signing of Josh Philippe. Josh had a wonderful first season in the BBL and displayed brilliant skills with bat and gloves.”

“He fitted into the Sixers environment seamlessly and displayed skills that set him as a player of the future. He possesses the style of play that will flourish at international level.”

“This is a significant signing as we continue to refine and develop our squad to continue the progression the Sixers have enjoyed.”
