Scorchers name squad for rebel Big Bash League

The Perth Scorchers have announced their 13 player squad ahead of the inaugural standalone rebel Women’s Big Bash League.

Skipper Meg Lanning will lead the side into their first game which could feature four potential debutants.

Spinner Jemma Barsby (Brisbane Heat), wicketkeeper-batter Georgia Redmayne (Hobart Hurricanes), medium-pacer Sam Betts (Adelaide Strikers) and Irish international Kim Garth (Sydney Sixers) are all in line to play their first match in Scorchers colours.

England superstar Nat Sciver returns to the side after missing the last WBBL season.

Head Coach Lisa Keightley said the team was raring to go for their first game against the Melbourne Renegades tomorrow.

“Everyone is in a great space at the moment,” she said.

“We’ve had a really good couple of weeks on the training track, and I know the girls are excited the first game is almost here.

“I think we have the balance right with our squad, we’ve got terrific bowling options and there’s good depth in our batting line up.

“The Renegades are always a tough prospect, especially on their home pitch, our first game will be a great test to see where we’re at early in the campaign.”
