Win for Arden Motorsport at Silverstone

Arden Motorsport returned to the top step of the British F4 podium on home soil at Silverstone last weekend [26-27 September].

Title contender Alex Connor enjoyed blistering pace throughout the weekend on the 1.6-mile National layout, securing double pole position for races one and three.

In the opening encounter, he duly converted his starting position into a lights-to-flag victory, fending off challenges from behind and surviving treacherous conditions with rain falling in the closing stages to take his second win of the 2020 campaign in fine fashion.

The 16-year-old would enjoy similar pace in the following race on Sunday, finishing fourth on the road before dropping two positions to sixth after a post-race penalty.

Starting from pole position again for race three, Connor narrowly missed out on notching up his third victory of the season after a race-long battle for the win, but ultimately settled for second, a result which promoted him back up to fourth in the Drivers’ standings leaving Northamptonshire.

Roman Bilinski enjoyed another consistent weekend of strong results, carrying the momentum from his podium last time out at Thruxton to bring home another trio of solid points finishes.

The Ginetta graduate made up a position from his grid slot in race one to cross the line seventh at the flag, before securing a brace of top five finishes in the pair of contests on Sunday.

Frederick Lubin again displayed impressive pace, qualifying as the best of the Rookie Cup runners for races one and three, but was unfortunate to suffer contact in race one that dropped him out of contention.

He bounced back in races two and three, and had been on course for his fifth category win in the final encounter before a battle in the closing stages would see him ultimately come home second in class.

The Red Arrows will return to British F4 action next weekend [10-11 October] at Croft Circuit for a double-header of contests.

Arden British F4 Team Manager Gary Ward: “It was a really successful weekend for the team here at our home round, and we couldn’t be more pleased for Alex who did an amazing job to get that double pole position and translate that into the win in race one.

“It’s a real boost for him to get another win under his belt and he really showed great pace all weekend which he proved with his podium in race three as well.

“It was another strong weekend for Roman, he’s now up to sixth in the championship which reflects just how consistent he’s been in recent rounds, so it’s great to see his progress.

“It wasn’t an easy round for Frederick but he got the double Rookie pole and clearly the pace was there, we know he’ll come back stronger at Croft in a fortnight!”

Alex Connor :“It was not a bad weekend overall getting some good points in races one and three after finishing P1 and P2.

“Race one was tricky as it started raining halfway through and we were all on slicks but I managed to stay out in front and get my second win of the season.

“We also moved back up to fourth in the championship which is great. A massive thanks to everyone at Arden for the mega car all weekend.”

Roman Bilinski :“ I was quite dubious about how Silverstone was going to be as my test there wasn’t great but the team had the car running well and I came out with good points.

“Croft is my favourite track so I’m really looking forward to this weekend. Lots of fitness training is going on, certainly going to need it for there.”

Frederick Lubin :“Silverstone was difficult. We got hit in race one resulting in a DNF. Race 2 was difficult and we couldn’t manage what we wanted.

“Race three was going well but I didn’t get the best of restarts, an unfortunate weekend but these things happen in most sports. I’ll be aiming to bounce back at Croft!

I’m looking forward to driving Croft, I don’t really know how quick we’ll be but I quite enjoyed the past few tests there and I think it will be great fun for racing.”
