Redemption for the Flames

Maybe hoping for a bit of redemption after a 7-0 defeat at Dundee Stars just a few weeks back, a hungry Flames team scored 4 unanswered goals in the 1st and added a couple more in the 2nd on the way to a 7-1 home ice win over the Scottish side.

Just 82 seconds in, Jordan Cownie had Flames in front and a follow up by Ian McNulty had them enjoying a 2 goal spread before the 5 minute mark. Ian Watters re-directed a Jesper Alasaari pass at 17:38 before McNulty’s 2nd; a virtual empty net tap in after a well executed 2 on 1 between him and Brett Ferguson just 48 seconds from period time, completed the opening frame.

Just beyond the game’s midway point, and on a powerplay, Jake Bolton had the 5th then 14 seconds after that Kyle Locke made it a 6 goal gap that remained on the board through 40 minutes.

Stars finally hit the scoresheet at 48:53 when Cody Drover put the only blemish on Kevin Lindskoug’s evening record, but Flames added one final one to erase it with a Ferguson powerplay strike just over 6 minutes from close.

“It is a funny game sometimes where you get rinsed one night by a team and then the next game the tables are turned,” commented Head Coach Paul Dixon.

“Nobody in this league is 6 or 7 goals better than any opponent, and Dundee is at a very difficult stretch right now with injuries, suspensions and a short line-up, but we definitely played very well tonight. Guys clearly came ready to give themselves every chance for success that they missed out on when we were in Scotland.”

“Now we enter a funny part of the schedule where we are off tomorrow, but back home Tuesday against Glasgow Clan so our job now is to try and re-set and be ready to put in a strong showing against them and hope for a win.”
