Fourth season at the Flames for Ferguson

After spending a short portion of the 20-21 term in Slovakia, Brett Ferguson will be back for a 4th season under Spectrum’s lights. The 31-year-old forward appeared in 56 games during Covid shortened 19-20, scoring 11 goals and 43 points across all competitions. The 6’0, 195lb native of Vibank, Saskatchewan has made 173 Flames starts, including those that contributed to the Flames first Elite league trophy with the Patton Conference title in 2018-2019. His Flames stay has progressed on nearly a point a game pace across 3 terms thanks to 167 from 48 goals and 119 assists.

“I am very excited to get back on the ice with the Flames,” the Canadian said. “After a difficult year and a half for everyone, I am hoping that we can all get back to the game we love and have a very good season in Guildford. The goal is to always bring trophies to the Spectrum, and I am hopeful that this will be a banner year for the Flames.”

After a Junior career that included a look at camp with the National Hockey League’s Edmonton Oilers, and a 28 goal and 38 assist closing season in 2010-2011 with the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League, Ferguson began 2011-2012 with a 15 game run at East Coast Hockey League’s Utah Grizzlies. Early in the schedule, he opted to take his scholarship package to the University of Alberta Golden Bears where he got his feet wet with 12 games and 5 points. Over the course of the next 4 seasons, Ferguson demonstrated extensive offensive success at near a point a game clip with his best season coming in 2013-2014 when he had 13 goals and 22 assists in 28 starts, not including another 6 playoff points, and a National All-Tournament team selection, while helping the Bears to the first of back to back University Cup titles. Following his final season in Green and Gold, where he finished 6th in conference scoring with 28 points in 27 games, he added 3 more ECHL appearances with Cincinnati Cyclones before agreeing a transfer to Gap in France for what turned out to be an injury shortened 2016-2017 set.

In 136 college starts, Ferguson bagged 42 goals and 92 assists as follow up to Major Junior numbers totalling 212 games, 43 goals and 124 points.

“We’re going to have a fair number of changes this season so the continuity players like Brett will be a big part of helping the new faces settle into the culture we want to express in our dressing room,” explained Head Coach Paul Dixon.

“Brett has been able to contribute in a variety of situations including offensive output over his 3 seasons, but one of his more standout attributes is the he is prepared to go to work every day whether it is in the gym, at practice or in game situations.”
