Elise Christie wins Silver and Bronze

GB Short Track Speed Skater Elise Christie has won two medals at the ISU European Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Dordrecht, Netherlands this weekend (11th-13th January).

It is Elise’s first international event this season where she has competed in individual distances. She was delighted with her result saying, “I did not expect to win any medals this weekend. To pull out a second place in the 1,500m is incredible”. Her time was 2.29.416.

Local favourite, Suzanne Schulting won the 1,500m title with a time of 2.29.181, she also went on to win the overall title. Elise said, “Suzanne is the strongest here by quite a bit, we can all see that. When she came past I thought I could fight with her but then I knew I might end up off the podium, so I let her go and thought I would try and stick to her as much as possible. It was the best tactic, and actually I think it was the best 1,500m I have ever raced”.

Sofia Prosvirnova (Russia) and Tifany Huot Marchard (France) won Gold and Silver respectively in the Ladies 1,000m.

Representing Great Britain at the event alongside Elise Christie have been Kathryn Thomson, Jack Burrows, Jonathan Moody, Billy Simms, Farrell Treacy and Niall Treacy.

Kathryn Thomson and Farrell Treacy, who both made their Olympic debut in 2018, reached the 1,500m semi finals. Thomson also raced in the 1,000m quarter finals.
