Good Night du Cedre Young Horse Spanish Showjumping Champion

‘Good Night du Cedre’, is by `Vagabond de la Pomme’ with the dam sire ‘Baloubet de Rouet’. This black mare is owned by Huerto de los Arroyos SL, and today she did them proud, winning the Spanish Showjumping Championships for 6 Year Old Young Horses 2022, and starting off our weekend here, of the Finals for the nine sections of the Championships that kick off the II October Tour.

Ridden by Jorge Bidón Daurella, this quality mare really couldn’t have a better showjumping lineage with `Vagabond de la Pomme’ as her sire, a 1.50/1.60m horse who has jumped in numerous important international events including World Cups, and has been competed by, among others, Penélope Leprevost, a regular participant here at the Sunshine Tour. The dam sire is by the infamous stallion ‘Baloubet de Rouet’ who’s offspring are seen winning around greatest showjumping tracks across the globe. So with the blood of these superb horses in her veins, this gently started mare stepped up today and proved that she will also be a force to be reckoned with in future competitions. Winning the first qualifier and coming third in the second, she jumped superbly today around a really testing course and, with just one pole down, won the jump off for Gold and Silver in 42.95s . ‘Robin Hood SGH’, ridden by Kevin González de Zárate, had two poles down in 44.75s and took the silver medal. ‘Robin Hood SGH’ is by another very well known stallion, ’Canturo’. The jump off for bronze was between 6 horses and was won by ‘Elba del Maset’, and Imma Roquet Autonell.

Another top winner today was Armando Trapote with the very athletic ‘Tornado VS’. This pair had the best time in the second qualifying round of the Absolute Championship. They stopped the clock in 74.37s beating Jesús Garmendia Echevarría with ‘Callias’ into second place. With this result Jesús just holds onto his lead in the overall championship results. Teresa Blázquez Abascal took third place today with ‘Nasa de Toxandra’ moving her up the board on the championship scoreboard. There were only seven riders finishing on zero today, over a track that was built by the designer Javier Trenor.

On the overall championship scoreboard, Armando Trapote sits just behind Jesús Garmendia, as both have zero points. With one fault, the reigning Spanish Absolute Champion, Ismael García Roque is hot on their heels, as is Santiago Núñez Riva. With three faults Carmen García-Torres and Jesús Bamonde are also not far behind and all this points to it being a very exciting and competitive Final competition this Sunday.

In the second round of the Young Rider Championship there was also fierce competition today. In the end the winner was Carolina Villanueva Suárez on ‘Levisto’, who were the only combination to jump clear in the time on the grass of the David Broome arena. In second was Pilar Mateos de Urbina with ‘Azure des Roches’ with 4 faults and Luis Ortiz Agüera with ‘Hvedholms Cashew’ who was third. Both of these latter riders were faster than the winner of this round but had four faults. As we factor in the new Championship regulations, these last two combinations and Diego Ramos Maneiro will be the three riders who pass on to the Final with zero points on the scoreboard. However the results in this class are very close, with the other nine riders moving forward with 4 or less faults to the Final on Sunday, which will also be a closely contested event.

In the 1.40m Classic, Rubén Gómez Crespo with ‘Allblack de Gressoux’,was the winner in 77.52s. Adding this result to his second place in the first qualifier he goes into the Final in the top spot and the only rider to enter Sunday’s Final with zero faults. Three seconds behind the winner was Ismael García Roque with ‘Cocopelli B’ taking second in this qualifier and also in the overall championship ratings with 2 faults. Teresa Blázquez Abascal with ‘Bella PS’ were once again third today.

The winners of the height sections 1.30m, 1.20m and 1.10m in the Classic qualifiers were; Hugo Álvarez Amaro with ‘Olina Van de Looise Heide’; Irati Osoro Aldaz with ‘Cavici Z’ and Manuel Román Álvarez with ‘Grantender’. The Finals of these three Championships will be held tomorrow as well as that of the 5yr old Young Horses, all in the Milton arena. Tomorrow the 7yr old Final will be in the David Broome arena on grass.

The Finals for the Albsolute, Young Riders and the Classic 1.40 Championships will be held on Sunday and promise to be the highlights of this week of jumping here at Montenmedio in the II Andalucía October Tour. The Tour is sponsored by Consejería de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte, co-financed by the European Union.

Jumping ends this first week on Sunday and starts up again with the international show on the 13th of October, for the remaining three weeks of competition. There will be 1,500 horses competing and around 700 riding from across 36 different countries. Please do visit the showgrounds where entry and parking are free, and come and enjoy not only top international sport but wonderful food and shopping in the commercial area.
