Campos Racing today scored its first race win of the season in Portugal after strenuous work made by everyone at the team and Marcos Siebert’s performance. On his debut in the series and with just a few days behind the wheel of the Dallara F312, Argentinean Siebert achieved his maiden win in the series at Estoril.
After two days devoted to testing on Thursday and Friday, when Siebert also showed winning pace, Campos Racing headed into Q1 with optimism. Siebert was 3rd fastest on the starting grid with a lap of 1m32.372s. Yves Baltas, with another Dallara of Campos Racing, clocked a lap time of 1m33.433s and lined up 14th on the starting grid. Siebert kept in podium contention in race one and almost moved up to third on the last lap, as he crossed the finish line just one tenth behind the 3rd-classified driver. Baltas brought 9th place home and ranked 3rd in rookies’ classification.
Today’s rain-affected Q2, Siebert fought for pole position but he finally missed it by one thousandth of a second setting a best lap of 1m45.211s. Baltas qualified 14th with his lap of 1m47.073s. Later in the race, Siebert took the lead on lap six and kept Felipe Drugovich at bay in the closing moments of the race to claim the win. Baltas was forced to pit and ended up 15th.
Siebert now sits second in the standings on 38 points.
